Norton Gregory resigns from Assembly, opening up 1-year Areawide seat in Oct. election

Assembly member Norton Gregory resigned from the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly today. His departure leaves a new vacancy for an Areawide seat in the October 2 Regular Municipal Election. This is another opportunity for the public to serve the community. The Candidate Filing Period closes today, August 13 at 4:30 p.m.​

 The Areawide seat now on the ballot in the Regular Municipal Election will be a one-year term, which is the remainder of Gregory’s term. Juneau voters will also elect a mayor, two District 2 Assembly seats, a District 1 Assembly seat and three School Board seats. Residents of Downtown Juneau, Douglas, North Douglas, Lemon Creek and the Airport area are eligible to run for District 1; residents of Mendenhall Valley and out the road are eligible to run for District 2. The Mayor is an Areawide seat.

Again, the Candidate Filing Period for the October 2 Regular Municipal Election closes today, August 13 at 4:30 p.m. People interested in running for municipal office must complete a Declaration of Candidacy, a Nominating Petition, and an Alaska Public Offices Commission Public Official Financial Disclosure. There forms are available online​ and must be filed with the CBJ Municipal Clerk Office during the filing period.

To vote in the October 2 Regular Municipal Election, you must be registered by September 2. Voters, regardless of which District they live in, will get to vote for all open seats.
