Countdown to Community Build of Project Playground

June 9, 2018 – News

The Project Playground Steering Committee is currently recruiting volunteers for the community build of Project Playground at Twin Lakes on August 8-12. City and Borough of Juneau contractor Carver Construction has started work on the sub-surface and will build the playground components that require heavy equipment. The rest will be built by the community. Register to volunteer for the community build here.

For those interested in playing a larger role in the project, the Steering Committee is recruiting Construction Captains to oversee volunteer crews and be present throughout the build. Construction Captains must have experience leading crews of people. The Steering Committee is also recruiting a Tools Coordinator. This individual will be responsible for finding, organizing, cataloguing, and returning all tools used in the community build. These positions need to be filled as soon as possible. Interested community members can email [email protected] for more information.

Foodland/Super Bear IGA has generously volunteered to supply lunches and dinners to volunteers, but the Steering Committee is still looking for donations of coffee and snack items to help fuel volunteers during the build. If you’re interested in filling this need, please email [email protected].

Project Playground is organized as a joint effort between CBJ and the community steering committee. CBJ is organizing the contractor build and the Steering Committee is overseeing the community volunteer effort. For more information, visit www.goprojectplayground.org.
