Assembly honors Dan Austin in proclamation

August 14, 2018 – News
The Juneau Assembly honored Dan Austin in a proclamation during last night’s regular meeting “for his unending dedication to the betterment of Juneau and all its citizens.” Dan Austin, who passed away July 25 at the age of 71, was the general manager of St. Vincent de Paul Juneau. He spent over 30 years advocating for the poor in Juneau.

Members of St. Vincent de Paul and the Juneau Coalition of Housing & Homelessness, of which Dan was a founding member, accepted the proclamation on Dan’s behalf.

Among a long list of accomplishments, Dan was instrumental in increasing the St. Vincent de Paul shelter facilities by 12 units to house families, he spearheaded the development of Smith Hall and housing for disadvantaged seniors, and he shared his expertise and enthusiasm with other entities addressing homelessness, including the Glory Hole and Juneau’s Housing First project. He will be dearly missed.
