Family Day - September

September's Family Day will be a part of the Juneau Public Libraries? Big Read programming. The library was one of 75 nonprofit organizations to receive a Big Read grant from the National Endowment for the Arts this year. Juneau's Big Read focuses on the novel Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. Station Eleven takes place in a future America where a devastating flu has wiped out much of the population, and objects such as cell phones and laptops become pieces in a \"Museum of Civilization,\" reflecting a past era.

During the Museum's Family Day, children and adults will be invited to interact with items from the Museum's Education Collection that reflect Juneau's past. Use your detective skills to guess what past household objects were used for, and use your imagination to create object labels for several \"mystery items\" in our own \"Museum of Civilization.\" Adults with children will receive free admission.

NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. To learn more about Juneau?s Big Read events through the end of October visit bigreadjuneau.org.
