Upcoming Street and Parking Space Closures This Week

On Thursday, May 5, 2022, beginning at approximately 4:50 p.m., Fourth Street between Main Street and Seward Street will be closed for a private event.  The street will remain closed to vehicular traffic until approximately 6:00 p.m.

The group will proceed down Main Street on the sidewalk, toward Egan Drive.  They will turn right on Egan Drive and will continue on the sidewalk until reaching Willoughby Avenue.  The group will then turn right on Willoughby Avenue and continue on the sidewalk to the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall for the conclusion of the march.

On Friday, May 6, 2022, a parking space at 220 Front Street will be closed for a private event.  The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will conclude at 8:00 p.m.  There will be no street closures associated with this event.

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Front Street between Franklin Street and Seward Street will be closed for Fashion Week, a private event.  The event will begin at 12:00 noon and will conclude at 5:00 p.m.  This section of Front Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during this time.

Augustus Brown Swimming Pool (minus rec pool) reopens & other operation changes

Augustus Brown Swimming Pool reopens today – Monday, March 7 – after a three-week closure to address multiple deferred maintenance projects. The lap pool, fitness deck, and locker rooms are reopen. Unfortunately, the recreation pool (small pool) will remain closed until the replacement of an essential component arrives and is replaced, which is likely to occur late March. Full facility schedules can be found at JuneauPools.org.

In addition, Juneau Pools has expanded operations at Dimond Park Aquatic Center, as well as Augustus Brown. The following changes have been made to pool operations:

  • increased capacities
  • saunas reopened
  • weekend open swims resume
  • lane and event room rentals available

Full facility rentals and instructional classes (including swim lessons, fitness classes, and health and safety courses) will resume in late March.

Upcoming holiday schedule for CBJ offices and facilities

Most City and Borough of Juneau offices and facilities will be closed Friday, December 24 and Saturday, December 25, and then again on Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.

Here’s a rundown of other services and facilities that have different operating schedules during the holidays:

Capital Transit & CAPITAL AKcess

  • Friday, December 24 – Bus service will end early:
    • The last bus to town from the Valley: Route 4 from Auke Bay at 7:22 p.m.
    • The last bus to town from Douglas: Route 1 from Douglas at 7:28 p.m.
    • The last bus to the Valley from Town: Route 3 from the DTC at 7:35 p.m.
    • The last bus from Town to Douglas: Route 1 from DTC at 8:05 p.m.
    • CAPITAL AKcess service ends at 9 m.
  • Saturday, December 25 – Buses will not be operating
  • Sunday, December 26 – Full service resumes
  • Friday, December 31 – Capital Transit and CAPITAL AKcess will have regular service
  • Saturday, January 1 – Buses will not be operating
  • Sunday, January 2 – Full service resumes

CBJ October 5, 2021 Regular Municipal Election Preliminary Unofficial Results, updated as of Monday, October 11. Ballot processing continues through October 19.

CBJ Clerk staff continues to work with the Municipality of Anchorage Election team in processing the remaining ballots from the By Mail Regular Municipal Election. As of Friday, October 8, 2021 a total of 9,197 ballots have been received. Of those ballots, 6,382 ballots have been approved and counted as of the close of business on Monday, October 11. The updated preliminary unofficial results are posted to the CBJ Elections webpage at juneau.org/elections. This round of preliminary unofficial results include the count of eligible write-in candidates from the 6,382 ballots that have been processed so far.

Staff will continue to process the remaining 2,988 ballots plus any additional ballots that have been returned via mail, postmarked by Election Day and received by the start of the Canvass Review Board on Tuesday, October 19.

At this time, there are approximately 376 ballots pending cure letter resolution. Ballots returned from voters that were lacking a signature, personal identifier, or whose signature did not match the signature on file with the State of Alaska Division of Elections have been sent cure letters. If you have received a cure letter, please contact the CBJ Election Call Center at 586-5278 option 4 to ensure your ballot is counted. Additional cure letters will continue to be sent out during the week as ballots are processed so please keep an eye on your mailboxes and respond as soon as possible.

Keep checking the CBJ Elections website juneau.org/elections for periodic updates during the week.

Final ballot processing will conclude in Anchorage on Friday, October 15 and Clerk staff will return to Juneau and meet with the Canvass Review Board on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 to certify the election. Certification may be delayed on a day-to-day basis, up to three days, depending on the workload before the Canvass Review Board.
