INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Drug Arrest - Churchill Way
Date: 2023-02-09
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #2023-00000009
Summary:

On 01/30/2023, members of the Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs (SEACAD) task force, located a suspicious package being shipped to Juneau in the mail. K9 Buddy alerted on the package, indicating there were possibly drugs inside. A search warrant was obtained for the package and inside was 177 grams of methamphetamine.

On 02/08/2023, SEACAD delivered the package to its intended destination, a residence in the 5800 block of Churchill Way. Upon the package being opened, SEACAD contacted the residents. A male was seen leaving the backyard of the residence, jumping a fence, in an attempt to flee. Officers located the male a short distance away and he was detained and identified as 31-year-old Arizona resident Christopher Glen Shanks. Inside the residence, SEACAD contacted 25-year-old Juneau resident Autumn Ann Herron.

Shanks and Herron were placed under arrest and taken to the Lemon Creek Correction Center on the charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony offense.

The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of approximately $26,500.

SEACAD, Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs, is a regional task force comprised of municipal police departments from Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Haines, Skagway, Petersburg, Hoonah, Wrangel, Craig and Yakutat, the Alaska State Troopers, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, and Coast Guard Investigative Service.
