INFORMATION RELEASE

On 08/21/2022, at about 9:07 p.m., the Juneau Police Department received a report of a disturbance between 26-year-old William James Pillans and a 26-year-old female, in the area of D-Float, at Statter Harbor. It was reported to police that Pillans was acting irate, throwing things around, and may have pushed the female. A records check showed that Pillans had a extraditable, $350,000 felony warrant for his arrest out of Montana for violating conditions of release, on the original charges of sexual assault, sexual intercourse without consent, criminal endangerment, two counts of assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

JPD responded to Statter Harbor and located Pillans on a vessel on D-Float. After speaking with Pillans about the earlier disturbance, responding Officers notified Pillans about the arrest warrant and requested he exit the vessel. Pillans refused to comply and was then escorted off the vessel. Pillans then resisted arrest and fought with multiple officers on the dock. Officers were eventually able to restrain Pillans and make the arrest. During the altercation, multiple officers, as well as Pillans, sustained minor injuries.

Officers spoke with the 26-year-old female who was involved in the initial altercation that was reported to police, but there was insufficient evidence to show that a crime had occurred.

Pillans was taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. In addition to the warrant, Pillans was charged with four counts of Assault (on a police officer) in the 4th degree and one count of Resisting Arrest; all are class A misdemeanors.
