Summary:

The New Year is almost here. The Juneau Police Department will be increasing DUI enforcement over New Years Eve. If you choose to drink, do so responsibly and please don't drink and drive. Juneau Crime Line is offering double DUI rewards during this time. If you see a drunk driver, call JPD to report it. If an arrest is made, your name can be put in to receive a DUI reward of up to $400.

If you plan on setting of fireworks, please review the City and Borough's guidelines on fireworks use over the new year holiday.

Concussive Fireworks - Mines and shells (mortars) and tubes larger than 3/4" - Permissible December 31st - 10am-Midnight & January 1st-Midnight-1am & 10am-11:59pm. Allowed on private property located outside the Fire Service Area.

Holiday Fireworks - Roman candles, skyrockets with sticks, helicopter rockets, firecrackers with soft casings - Permissible December 31st from 10am-Midnight and January 1st Midnight-1am & 10am-11:59pm. Allowed on private property.

Allowable Fireworks - Cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, wheels, illuminating torches, dipped sticks, novelties - Permissible December 31st from 10am-Midnight and January 1st Midnight-1am & 10am-11:59pm. Allowed on private property.

The Fire Service Area extends from the end of Thane Road to Cohen Drive; out to the North Douglas boat launch and up to the houses on Fish Creek Road; out to the end of Sandy Beach on Douglas; all of the Lemon Creek; and all of the Mendenhall Valley.

For more information on fireworks guidelines, including year round usage, please review the CBJ Fireworks Guidelines that are posted on the CBJ and JPD Facebook pages. Violation of the fireworks ordinance is subject to a $250 fine.
