INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Collision
Date: 2020-07-31
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #200731-001
Summary:

On 07/31/20, at about 1:56 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle crash in the 3200 block of Mendenhall Loop Road. The caller reported the vehicle hit a light pole and an injured person was lying in the road near the crash.

JPD and CCFR responded to the area to assist. Upon arrival, officers located a 39-year-old male in the roadway who was injured, but conscious. After a search of the area, officers determined the injured male was the registered owner of the crashed vehicle and the sole occupant. CCFR immediately transported the male to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The roadway was closed while JPD investigated the cause of the crash. The initial investigation showed that the vehicle, a 2008 grey Ford, had been travelling North on Mendenhall Loop Road, towards the glacier, when it crossed over the roadway and struck a light pole, destroying it. The driver was ejected onto the roadway during the crash.

The 39-year-old male was medevacked to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle due to the seriousness of his injuries. JPD was able to locate a family member of the driver and notify them of the crash.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
