From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #200705-011
On 07/05/20, at about 7:41 PM, JPD received a report of a two vehicle crash in the outbound lane of Egan Drive, at the Fred Meyer intersection. Multiple callers reported there were injured people involved in the crash and the vehicles were blocking the roadway. JPD and CCFR responded to assist.
The investigation showed that a silver 2006 Dodge, being driven by 76-year-old Norman Nelson, was driving inbound on Egan Drive, when it made a left turn in front of a red 2009 Ford, which was travelling outbound on Egan Drive. The Ford was being driven by an 18-year-old female and contained three other passengers. The Dodge had one additional passenger.
The driver and passenger of the Dodge, as well as two passengers from the Ford, were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation due to injuries sustained in the crash. None of the injuries are considered serious at this time. Both vehicles sustained disabling damages due to the collision and were towed from the scene. Both vehicles are believed to be totaled.
Nelson was cited for failing to yield when turning left and for not having insurance.
While JPD and CCFR were attending to the crash, both outbound lanes of Egan Drive were closed and traffic was diverted onto Old Dairy Road for about 30-minutes.
As a reminder to all drivers when approaching the scene of a crash. Please help keep your first responders safe who are having to work in the roadway. Pay close attention to people directing traffic and follow detoured traffic patterns. Stay off cell phones and please don't slow or stop in roadways to make recordings. When drivers are preoccupied by trying to look at the crash, they often take their eyes off the roadway. This could have serious consequences to others. Be safe!
