INFORMATION RELEASE

On 05/01/20, at 11:34 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a call about a man with a cut on his leg, located in the 600 block of West Willoughby Ave. Police Dispatch could hear what sounded like people arguing in the background while on the phone with the caller. Police and EMS units responded to assist.

Responding units arrived on scene and located a 53-year-old male who had an approximate 5-inch laceration on his right calf. EMS units transported the 53-year-old male to the hospital for medical treatment of his injuries. At the hospital, the 53-year-old male was aggressive towards staff and uncooperative with Police Detectives. The 53-year-old male is currently in stable condition and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Officers contacted people in the area and learned that the injuries to the 53-year-old male were the result of being cut with a knife by a 43-year-old male, following an altercation.
After speaking with the people involved in the incident, officers learned that a group of people, including the 53-year-old male, had been hanging out in the area and were consuming alcohol.

The 53-year-old male was acting aggressive towards other people within the group and had pulled out a pocketknife. An altercation occurred and the 43-year-old male pulled out his own pocketknife in response to the actions of the 53-year-old male. The 53-year-old male attempted to kick the 43-year-old male in the abdomen and then the 43-year-old male cut the 53-year-old male in the calf with the knife.

Two knives were located at the scene and recovered. The 43-year-old male was detained and brought to the police department for questioning. After being questioned, the 43-year-old male was released.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the cause of this incident.

This case is still under investigation.
