INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Warrant Service Leads to Shots Fired
Date: 2019-10-24
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #191024-001
Summary:

On 10/24/19, at about 12:05 AM, Juneau Police Officers attempted to contact 28-year-old Micah Nelson regarding his outstanding arrest warrants.

Nelson was seen in the area of Park Place and was a passenger in a gray Toyota Corolla. Nelson exited the vehicle and ran in the direction of Cinema Drive and nearby buildings. As officers attempted to follow, Nelson ran into the nearby wooded area, and then 3-4 gunshots could be heard. Officers believed Nelson was shooting at them in order to evade arrest.

Nelson hopped a nearby fence and ran through the residential area of the Sprucewood Park. Nelson ran through the back yard of a 60-year-old male who was upset that someone had jumped his fence and was trespassing on his property. The 60-year-old male chased after Nelson. Nelson hopped another fence, and as the 60-year-old male attempted to follow, Nelson pointed a handgun at the man. The 60-year-old male then stopped chasing after Nelson.

The gray Toyota Corolla and it's driver was detained by police for further questioning.

Officers located bullet casings in the area where Nelson was alleged to have shot at responding officers. Nobody was injured during this incident and this case is still under investigation.

The Juneau Police Department is continually asking for the public’s assistance in locating Nelson. Nelson currently has two $100,000 arrest warrants and is wanted in questioning for multiple felony assault cases. Nelson should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the location of Nelson is encouraged to contact the Juneau Police Department. Anonymous tips can be made at http://juneaucrimeline.com or (907)-523-7700.

Juneau Crimeline is currently offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information that leads to the arrest of Micah Nelson.
