On 08/16/19, at approximately 2:51 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of an ATM being stolen out of the lobby of the Ramada Hotel, located on Whittier Street.
Witnesses report that two male subjects, both wearing dark hoodies and scarves covering their faces, entered the hotel with a dolly, loaded up the ATM and left with it. The males loaded the ATM up in a white van and drove away from the area.
At about 3:30 AM, officers saw the white van driving in the area of North Douglas Highway. The van sped off as officers turned around to get behind it. Soon afterwards, the van was located along the side of the road, in the 5800 block of North Douglas Highway. The van was unoccupied. Officers searched the area for the suspects, but they were not located.
Officers later located the stolen ATM in the area of Fish Creek Road. The ATM had been cut open and an undetermined amount of the money was taken.
Officers were able to contact the owner of the white van and learned it had been stolen from the area of Auke Bay.
This case is still under investigation.
