INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Death Investigation
Date: 2019-08-03
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #190803-005
Summary:

On 08/03/19, at approximately 12:06 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a dead body floating in Gold Creek, adjacent to Cope Park. Officers responded to the area and located the body of a deceased adult male. Officers are still working on confirming the identity of the male, and notifying next of kin. The male does appears to be approximately 60-80 years old, and Alaskan Native.

Responding officers found no injuries on the male that would be considered serious enough to cause death, and at this time, the cause of death doesn't appear to be suspicious. How the male ended up in the water is still unknown.

The body of the male will be sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiners office for an autopsy and identification. This case is still under investigation.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
