Subject: Juneau Man Arrested for Burglary and Assault on an Officer

Summary:

On March 17, 2019 at about 2:49pm two JPD officers contacted several people in a parking lot near the 1800 block of Northwood Drive. The officers were conducting follow up reference a recent residential burglary. One officer left the area to conduct follow up at another location. At about 3:18pm, the remaining officer advised the suspect, Oleksandr Kryvoruchko, that he was going to jail.

As the officer was attempting to place Kryvoruchko in handcuffs, he pulled away and began to struggle with the officer. The officer gave repeated warnings to him about trying to pull away. Kryvoruchko was pushing back against the officer as she was attempting to take him into custody. The suspect got away and fled the area on foot.

During the incident, the officer sustained injuries to her head, her right arm and both legs.  An ambulance responded and transported the officer to BRH where she was treated for her injuries and released.

At about 7:05 pm that night, JPD officers went to a private residence in the 6500 block of Glacier highway. When officers knocked on the door it was answered by a female associate of Kryvoruchko. As an officer was speaking with the female, the male suspect attempted to flee out of the back door of the residence. When stopped by an officer near the back door, the suspect went back into the residence and closed the door.

Once officers entered the residence, they contacted Oleksandr Kryvoruchko in the living room. He was arrested for Escape in the 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, Assault on a Police Officer in the 4th degree, Burglary in the 1st degree, Theft in the 2nd degree and Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree. Kryvoruschko was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
