The Juneau Police Department and Juneau Crime Line would like to take this opportunity to remind people to document their valuable items. Whether you write down your serial numbers or photograph your valuables, having a way to positively identify your property is very important in helping us return those items to you should we recover them after a theft.
This was seen in a recent case, where, during the course of our investigation, we recovered a firearm that had been reported stolen 20 years earlier. This wouldn’t have been possible if the victim hadn’t documented the serial number.
It may seem like an inconvenience but you may end up thanking yourself 20 years down the road (hopefully sooner).
