INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Burglary Arrest
Date: 2017-11-03
From: Deputy Chief David Campbell
Case or Incident: #171103-001
Summary:

On 11/03/2017, at approximately 1:19 AM, the Juneau Police Department was notified of an active burglary alarm at OfficeMax in the Nugget Mall. Officers arrived and discovered that the glass front door had been smashed. No one was located inside the store.

Video surveillance footage from the store captured the image of a male breaking through the front doors and stealing approximately $20 in office supplies. The male suspect was identified as 53 year old Juneau resident Gary William Bell.

At approximately 7:06 AM, Bell returned to OfficeMax and entered the store through the broken front door. Bell stole more office supplies and then left on foot towards Trout Street.

JPD officers canvased the area and determined that Bell was staying in a hotel located on Trout Street. Bell was located inside a hotel room and he was arrested for two counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree. Bell was ultimately transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on No Bail.

The value of the broken front doors has not yet been determined.

The investigation is continuing.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
