The State Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified the discovered remains as belonging to 53 year old Juneau resident Teri Heuscher. Positive identification was made by dental records. Next of kin has been notified.
The investigation is pending a possible cause of death from the Medical Examiner's Office. Preliminary results indicate that foul plays is not suspected in Heuscher's death.
Teri Heuscher has been reported as missing on 06/26/2017. Family members became concerned for her welfare after she had been gone for several hours and her car was found parked near a trailhead on Jennifer Drive. See 170626-001 for details.

On 10/02/2017, at approximately 3:57 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report from a duck hunter that they had found a deceased person in the woods. The location was described as a campsite near the base of Thunder Mountain near Rainbow Row.
JPD detectives responded and located the campsite, which was described as a 40 minute hike from the trailhead. The partial remains of what appeared to be one person were discovered at the campsite.
The condition of the remains showed considerable deterioration and prevented identification, including a determination of gender. It was also not possible to determine how long the remains had been in the woods. The remains were gathered and will be sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner?s Officer for identification and determination of cause of death.
The investigation is continuing.
