INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Assault Bear Spray
Date: 2017-10-03
From: Lieutenant David Campbell
Case or Incident: #171002-011
Summary:

On 10/02/2017, at approximately 6:32 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report from a McDonald?s employee that a female had sprayed pepper spray in the restaurant?s bathroom and parking lot. The employee added that the female tried to punch a child.

JPD officers arrived and contacted 31 year old female Juneau resident Casey Muir, who was holding a can of bear spray. Officers repeatedly ordered Muir to put the bear spray on the ground, and after several minutes she put down the bear spray and was placed into handcuffs.

The investigation alleged that Muir pointed the bear spray at a McDonald?s employee, placing the employee in fear of being sprayed. It was also alleged that Muir approached a family in the parking lot and attempted to punch a 4 year old girl. No one was hurt during the incident.

Muir was placed under arrest for two counts of Assault. Muir was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

The investigation is on-going.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
