On Saturday, 12/03/2016, three students with the Thunder Mountain High School came to the Juneau Police Department and reported that another student was threatening a school shooting on Monday. The Thunder Mountain High School administration was notified of the threat. JPD also contacted the District Attorney?s Officer and the Johnson Youth Center.
JPD officers contacted the 17 year old male student who reportedly made the threats. The student?s parents were also notified. The student was left in the custody of his parents and told not to go to the Thunder Mountain High School, or any other Juneau School District property
JPD understands that these types incidents are very scary. People have been asking why the student hasn?t been arrested or taken into custody. At this point, there are not enough facts for an arrest or a custodial hold.
JPD officers will be at the Thunder Mountain High School, Juneau Douglas High School, and the other Juneau schools to reassure students, parents, and staff that police are available should something happen. JPD can?t tell parents what they should or should not be doing with their children. It is the parent?s choice as to whether to send their children to school, but JPD is taking actions to try and assure the safety of everyone involved.
JPD is continuing to work with the school district to address the issue and the investigation into the threats is continuing.
