This New Year?s Eve there are three steps being taken to help encourage the public to not drive after consuming alcohol. First, the Juneau Police Department is conducting extra patrols over the holiday. An additional nine officers will be working throughout the day and night. During peak celebration hours a total of 16 officers will be patrolling the streets of Juneau.
Second, the Juneau Crime line has a program where citizens can receive a cash reward if they are instrumental in reporting a DUI that results in an arrest. From December 15th through January 15th, the Juneau Crime Line is doubling the reward to $200.
Third, the Juneau-Lynn Canal CHARR is offering a Safe Ride Home program. CHARR has partnered with 15 local businesses throughout Juneau to offer free cab rides home between the hours of 9 PM to 3 AM on New Year?s Eve night. Look for local advertisements and ask your bartender for a CHARR sponsored cab ride home.
