INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: New Years Holiday - Driving
Date: 2013-12-30
From: Erann Kalwara - Communication Manager / PIO
Case or Incident: #jpd psa
Summary:

The Juneau Police Department would like to remind drivers that while celebrating the end of 2013 brings fun and excitement, getting to and from gatherings safely must be a priority.

If you are driving over the New Year?s holiday, don?t drink. Having alcohol in your system can create a noticeable impairment. Be focused on your driving, use good judgment by avoiding distractions such as cell phones, and wear your seatbelt.

JPD will have 13 officers on patrol the night of December 31st, more than double a usual patrol shift. New Year?s Day will also have an increased number of patrol officers working.

Juneau Crimeline has doubled the cash reward for DUI tips leading to indictment or arrests during this holiday season. The Juneau Chapter of CHARR is sponsoring ?safe ride home? cabs between 9pm on the 31st and 3am on the 1st from 14 local establishments. Look for their advertisement in the Capital City Weekly.

Please be careful and make good choices to help keep our community safe over this holiday.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
