Subject: Shooting and Kidnapping
Date: 2013-12-06
From: Lt David Campbell
Case or Incident: #131206-001 and 131206-002
Summary:

On 12/06/2013, at approximately 12:17 AM, the Juneau Police Department received multiple 911 calls about a shooting that took place at the Coho Apartment. The Coho Apartments are located in the 3600 block of Amalga Street. Reports indicated that a male had been shot and was bleeding.

Officers arrived within minutes at the Coho Apartments and contacted a 44 year old male Juneau resident. The 44 year old male had been shot once in his left shoulder and once in his left wrist. The 44 year old male was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Officers searched the area of Coho Apartment and interviewed several people. Witnesses reported hearing an argument, followed by several gunshots. Officers also located a small caliber pistol and several spent shell casings.

The Juneau Police Department is asking for assistance in located a vehicle that may have been involved during the incident. The vehicle is described as an older flat-bed full-sized white truck with dually rear wheels and a plow. If located, please call JPD and do not attempt to contact the vehicle.

On 12/06/2013, at approximately 7:40 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a possible kidnapping. In essence, a 22 year old female Juneau resident reported that the male involved in the shooting had held her captive. The 22 year old female victim identified the male suspect as a 24 year old Juneau resident. The female reported that she escaped when the 24 year old male suspect fell asleep.

The female victim reported that the 24 year old male suspect was asleep in a vehicle on Gastineau Avenue. JPD officers arrived and the vehicle was gone.

At approximately 8:12 AM, a JPD officer saw the suspect vehicle turn onto Riverside Drive from Egan Drive. Officers stopped the suspect vehicle on Julep Street and contacted the 24 year old male suspect and a 26 year old female Juneau resident. Both the 24 year old male suspect and the 26 year old female were detain and taken to the Juneau Police Department.

The investigation continues into both the shooting and kidnapping.

*****UPDATE*****

The investigation has revealed that the shooting at the Coho Apartments occurred during an altercation between the 44 year old male who was shot, and the 24 year old male suspect.

JPD is no longer asking the public to look for any vehicles. The investigation indicates that the 24 year old male suspect was driving the white flat-bed truck during the shooting. The 24 year old male suspect left the Coho Apartment and switched to a sedan that he was driving when stopped by the police. Both the flat-bed truck and the sedan have been seized as evidence.

The investigation also indicates that the original report of a kidnapping is most likely a fabrication.

The investigation is still continuing.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
