INFORMATION RELEASE

On Saturday, 11/23/2013 at approximately 12:20 PM, a JPD officer was in his patrol car at the intersection of Alaway Avenue and Glacier Highway. A 1994 Toyota Camry drove past the officer heading inbound on Glacier. The officer recognized the driver of the Camry as 33 year old Juneau resident William Buck Ratliff.

A check with JPD Dispatch confirmed that Ratliff had an outstanding No Bail arrest warrant for Failure to Appear. The original charge on the arrest warrant was for Criminal Mischief. JPD Dispatch also confirmed that the Camry was owned by Ratliff.

The officer followed the Camry, which turned left from the Glacier Highway onto Davis Avenue. The Camry accelerated to approximately 40 mph and the officer active his patrol car?s emergency lights and siren. The Camry continued to drive down Davis Avenue at a high rate of speed and almost struck a skiff that was stuck in a snow drift. The Camry turned onto Churchill Way and stopped approximately half way down the street.

Ratliff exited the vehicle and began running away on foot. The officer ordered Ratliff to stop, but Ratliff continued to flee. Ratliff had a large lead on the officer and eventually got away by jumping over a fence and running through several yards.

Two more JPD officers arrived to help look for Ratliff. Officers tracked Ratliff through the snow and found him hiding in a shed.

On 11/23/2013, at approximately 12:35 PM, William Ratliff was arrested without further incident on the No Bail warrant. Ratliff was additionally charged with Failure to Stop at Direction of a Peace Officer, a Class C Felony. Ratliff was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
