Subject: Crime Line Crime of the Week Update

Summary:

On 10/14/2013, at approximately 12:09 AM, a resident of the 4400 block of Taku Blvd reported a vehicle drove off the road and into a utility box located on his property. The vehicle then left the area.

JPD officers arrived and located several damaged pieces of the suspect vehicle still on the property. Officers searched the area and the suspect vehicle was not located.

Utilities crews arrived and determined that the damaged property belonged to GCI, ACS, and AEL&P. The total estimated damage to the utility box was approximately $12,500.

On 10/21/2013, the incident was featured on Crime Line as the Juneau Crime of the Week.

On 10/22/2013, at approximately 12:29 PM, a 19 year old male Juneau resident came to JPD and confessed to driving the vehicle that hit the utility box. The driver was interviewed and released. The vehicle involved in the accident, a 2010 Toyota truck, was located at a local auto body shop.

Since the 19 year old driver was not arrested his name will not be immediately released. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney?s Office for consideration of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree charges against the driver.
