INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: PSA One-Pot Meth Bottles
Date: 2012-12-21
From: Lt David Campbell
Case or Incident: #N/A
Summary:

Since December 13th, 2012, there have been two reports concerning one-pot methamphetamine labs being located in Juneau. The latest incident occurred on December 20th when a Juneau Community Services officer located six discarded one-pot bottles off of Allen Court.

The one-pot methamphetamine cook method involves the manufacturing of methamphetamine inside a plastic bottle. One to two liter plastic soda bottles are typically used, but using any size bottle is possible. The one-pot method is considered highly dangerous as hazardous chemicals inside the bottle can easily ignite. The bottles also present a danger of rupturing and spraying chemicals on anyone near the bottle. Once the methamphetamine is removed from the bottle it is common for the bottle to be discarded, which could happen almost anywhere.

Discarded one-pot bottles may contain cloudy liquids, metal strips, or have tubes attached to the top. Citizens are urged to not touch or disturb any suspicious bottles and to notify the Juneau Police Department immediately.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
