Shelter Reservations

All shelters are available to reserve

  • Between 7:00am and 10:00pm
  • First-come, first-served

Summer 2024 shelter reservations (April 15–September 15) are now open.

Reservations for the Winter 2024-2025 (September 16 – April 14) will open on Monday, June 24, at 8:00 a.m.

Reservations are accepted:

  • On a first-come, first-served basis
  • At least three (3) days prior to date of shelter use
  • Online, in-person, emailed, by mail, or fax

Rental fees are due at the time of reservation.

  • Summer (April 15 – September 15): $30/hour + tax*
  • Winter (September 16 – March 31): $25/hour + tax*

*The winter shelter rate is lower due to reduced maintenance. Maintenance will vary depending on weather and staff availability. Rates effective 1.1.2023.

Credit or refunds will only be given if notification is received at least seven days prior to the reserved date.

  • No service charge for a reschedule
  • $10 service charge for refunds

Reschedules must be requested at least one (1) business day prior to the reserved date.

RECREATIONAL EQUIPMENT

  • Badminton, bocce ball, corn hole bags, croquet, horseshoes and volleyballs are available to rent with a shelter reservation.

AMPLIFIED SOUND

  • Live bands, speaker systems, and bullhorns are authorized by special permit only and must be approved by the director. An amplified sound permit is NOT needed for cellphones or portable handheld speakers.

FIRES IN PARKS

  • Per CBJ Code 67.01.090 (j) Fires.  No person shall make or assist in making any fire within fifty feet of any building or other improvement except in established fireplaces or barbecue pits, and no person shall allow a fire to burn in a manner dangerous to persons or property or to be left unattended.
  • Per Park Policy:  No fires are allowed above the ‘logline’ at Savikko.

VENDING POLICY

If you are using a vendor at CBJ Parksite for catering or entertainment, that vendor must have a valid CBJ vending permit displayed on site at your event. They are subject to JPD ticketing of violations. Contact Parks & Recreation Administrative Office for details at 586-5226. Vending Permit Applications are available in the forms section above.

MISUSE OF FACILITY

  • Misuse of the facility or failure to conform to the rules will be sufficient reason for denying future facility rental.

No glass containers in any park.

Auke Lake Wayside Park

The Auke Lake Wayside shelter is located off the parking lot of Auke Lake at 10680-10998 Glacier Highway. Auke Lake Wayside Park features a boat launch and a winding 1.2-mile interpretive trail through the woods.

Channel Wayside Shelter

Channel Wayside

Channel Wayside Park offers stunning views of the Gastineau Channel with walking access down to the water and restrooms nearby. The Channel Wayside Park and shelter are located at 3001-3141 Channel Drive.

Caouette Memorial Cabin at Twin Lakes

John Caouette Memorial Cabin at Twin Lakes

A beautiful cabin sitting on the southern shore of Twin Lakes, the John Caouette Memorial Cabin is ideal for intimate gatherings year-round. A public fishing dock and restrooms (April-September) are a short walk away. The Caouette Cabin is only available for one reservation per day. In the winter when the cabin is not rented, it is open to the public as a warming shelter for ice skaters once the lake freezes over.

Marine Park Pavilion

Marine Park Pavilion

Located within Marine Park on Juneau’s waterfront, Marine Park Pavilion is central to the heart of downtown. Free 2-hour street parking or paid hourly parking is available in the Marine Parking Garage (spaces 5-25 only) or at the Shoppers Lot across from the Merchant’s Wharf. Public restrooms can be found across the street at the south end of City Hall.

Overstreet Park Shelter

Mayor Bill Overstreet Park

Our newest shelter is within Mayor Bill Overstreet Park. The park has beautiful views of Gastineau Channel, offers multiple access points to the water, interpretive signs, and the iconic and impressive whale fountain, Tahku. The Mayor Bill Overstreet Park shelter is located at the end of West 9th and West 8th Streets and at the base of the Juneau-Douglas Bridge.

Pioneer Pavilion

Pioneer Pavilion

Pioneer Pavilion is located within the Savikko Park complex (101 Savikko Road) near Treadwell Arena. It can be utilized as a stage or a shelter, has a large grassy area around it and restrooms nearby at Sandy Beach.

The new shelter at Riverside Rotary Park.

Riverside Rotary Park

Located in the heart of the Mendenhall Valley at 3300 Riverside Drive, the beautiful new Riverside Rotary Park shelter was re-built in 2021. The increases size can easily accommodate small to medium-sized gathering and it is especially great for families with young ones with the playground and Gaga Ball pit just steps away. The shelter can be accessed from the parking lot nearby by a short walk along the paved path.

Shelter 1 at Sandy Beach

Savikko #1 at Sandy Beach

Our second most popular shelter, Savikko #1 is close to the parking lot and has moving walls to help protect you from the elements. It is just steps away from a sandy beach, playground area, two volleyball courts and the Treadwell Mine Historic Trail. The park also has public restrooms, onsite parking, and water fountain (April-September). Savikko #1 is located within the Savikko Park complex (101 Savikko Road).

Shelter 2 at Sandy Beach

Savikko #2 (Log Cabin) at Sandy Beach

Savikko #2 is our most popular shelter. Although not immediately next to, the public restrooms, parking, and water fountain (April-September) are just steps away. This shelter fills up quickly on the weekends during the summer so do not hesitate to reserve it early for your event! Savikko #2 is located within the Savikko Park complex (101 Savikko Road) which offers a sandy beach, playground area, two sand volleyball courts and the Treadwell Mine Historic Trail.

Treadwell Office Building

The newly preserved Treadwell Mine Office Building is perfect for events that enjoy a touch of history. Access to the shelter is about a 5-minute walk along the Treadwell Mine Historic Trail from the Savikko Park complex (101 Savikko Road) or from the trailhead at the end of St. Anns Avenue. The nearest restrooms are available at Savikko Park.

Twin Lakes Shelter

Twin Lakes

Located within Juneau’s premier family park, the Twin Lakes shelter sits adjacent to the famous Project Playground. The fully enclosed playground makes it especially great for families with children. Twin Lakes Park located at 3401-3499 Glacier Highway also offers a wide open grassy hill to roll down, access to Twin Lakes itself for swimming, and a paved path along the shoreline; there is something for everyone to stay entertained. There is onsite parking, public restrooms and a water fountain (April-September).
