Several healthcare providers in Juneau offer COVID-19 testing services. In addition, the City and Borough of Juneau has two sites – the Capital City Fire/Rescue Drive-Thru Testing Site at the Hagevig Training Center and the Juneau International Airport Test Facility. Here’s how the public can use each site:
Juneau International Airport Test Facility
The Juneau International Airport Test Facility is ONLY for testing required under the State of Alaska’s Health Mandate 10 on International and Interstate Travel:
- Travelers arriving from out-of-state
- Voucher retesting 7-14 days after arrival
This site offers a non-invasive, nasal swab PCR test, and there is no fee. With a voucher in hand, travelers can return to the Juneau Airport 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. daily for the follow-up test; no appointment is required. Travelers can also contact another health care provider in Juneau to see if the provider will accept the voucher. Tests are sent to the State of Alaska Public Health Laboratory in Fairbanks and results have been taking up to 5 days to come back, though turnaround times can be variable.
Capital City Fire/Rescue Drive-Thru Testing Site
The Drive-Thru Testing Site at the Hagevig Training Center is primarily for individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19. Getting tested at this site requires an appointment through the COVID-19 Screening Hotline, 586-6000. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, even mild ones, call your primary healthcare provider or call the COVID-19 Screening Hotline at 586-6000, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. Testing will be arranged if appropriate. Testing for individuals with symptoms is free. Tests are sent to the State of Alaska Public Health Laboratory in Fairbanks and results have been taking up to 5 days to come back, though turnaround times can be variable. Testing for individuals with upcoming medical procedures as required under the state Health Mandate 15 is also done at this site; these are referred by medical providers.
How NOT to use the CBJ testing sites:
CBJ’s test sites do not administer asymptomatic testing outside of what’s required in state mandates, unless it’s advised by the Alaska Division of Public Health. That means, the sites DO NOT test individuals for outgoing travel, employer-required testing, or testing for ferry passengers going on longer-duration routes within Alaska or to Bellingham.
