Surround the new Project Playground with love – buy a fence picket

October 16, 2017 – News

When the new Project Playground gets built next year, your name could be etched in the fence surrounding the new equipment. The Project Playground Steering Committee is selling fence pickets, revitalizing a fundraiser that was successful for the first playground, which burnt down April 24.

The City and Borough of Juneau insurance and risk management funds will pay to rebuild the playground similar to what it was before. Any safety or accessibility improvements to the original design will be paid for with fundraising dollars. To date, the Juneau Community Foundation, which is managing donations, has received about $170,000. The design process, taking place this fall and winter, includes school visits to get feedback from kids and an upcoming public meeting in November.

Individuals and families can purchase a fence picket for $60; businesses can for $120. Each picket will allow up to 17 letters (spaces included). Multiple pickets may be purchased for longer messages. To buy a picket, fill out an order form or email [email protected] with any questions. Pickets will also be for sale at the Juneau Public Market.

During the cleanup of the original playground, hundreds of personalized pickets were recovered. Pickets that survived the fire (check this list to see if yours did) will be available for pickup on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city landscape office, which is located in the Dimond Park Complex.
