Register now for the June 9 “How to Run for Local Office” Workshop

May 22, 2018 – News

Juneau voters will elect a mayor, two Assembly seats and three School Board seats in October. These elected local bodies make important decisions that directly impact your life and your community. If you have ever thought about running for local office, now or in the future, or plan to work for someone who is, consider registering for the June 9 “How to Run for Local Office” workshop. Twenty-four people have already registered. Space is limited, so if you plan to attend, please register here: http://juneaulwv.org/run/. The more people who participate in and understand government, the better it reflects the needs of the community.

The workshop is on Saturday, June 9, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Assembly Chambers at City Hall. It’s free and focuses on: what it’s like to serve on the Assembly and School Board, deciding and preparing to run, legal requirements for candidates, how to get elected, and what happens if you win. You’ll hear panel presentations from current and past elected officials as well as experts in the field. Each person who attends leaves with a complete toolkit of forms, references, and “How To’s.”

Register online now for the “How to Run for Local Office” workshop on June 9, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
