Planning for the future of South Douglas-West Juneau kicks off Jan. 15

January 10, 2020 – News

As the planning effort for South Douglas-West Juneau begins, the City and Borough of Juneau Community Development Department (CDD) is hosting a Kickoff Meeting on Wednesday, January 15 at the Douglas Library from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to stop by any time.

The meeting is a chance for the public to meet the project managers and learn about the scope of the project, the proposed timeline, and upcoming meetings. The project area extends from the cul-de-sac at St. Anns Avenue to the Douglas Bridge. The plan will address land use and zoning, transportation and infrastructure, recreational and natural resources, neighborhood commercial growth, historic and cultural preservation, and arts and placemaking opportunities.

Additionally, CDD is looking for nine volunteers to serve on the steering committee. Members can either live, work, own property or own a business within the project area. The primary responsibility of the steering committee is to serve as the voice of the public and the conscience of the plan and, when necessary, to make recommendations on zoning changes, public projects, and other items relevant to the South Douglas/West Juneau Area Plan. Learn more about being on the steering committee at the Kickoff Meeting and pick up an application.
