Planning Commission meets January 22. Here’s how to weigh in.

The City and Borough of Juneau Planning Commission meets on January 22, 7 p.m. in City Hall Assembly Chambers to review extensions of 2 permits related to Statter Harbor development, Phase 2 of the airport’s terminal reconstruction project, the lease of city land for a composting facility, a city/state project for culvert rehabilitation along Glacier Highway, a city land sale, and a proposal to use a single-family residence as a boarding house. All of these items are up for public hearing.

Statter Harbor development (USE2018 0022)

Due to delays in obtaining state and federal permits, CBJ Docks and Harbors requests an extension to the Conditional Use Permit for Statter Harbor Improvements (USE2017 0008) to include development of new moorage and loading floats, uplands development, a kayak launch ramp, a restroom and covered shelter area with potential second floor commercial space, and removal and replacement of a section of the moorage facility.

Construction of a public restroom at Statter Harbor (FZE2018 0002)

Due to delays in obtaining state and federal permits, CBJ Docks and Harbors requests an extension to the Flood Zone Exception (FZE2017 0001) to allow construction of a public restroom below the Base Flood Elevation at Statter Harbor.

Lease of CBJ land for a composting facility (CSP2018 0014)

Juneau Composts! LLC has requested to lease city property adjacent to the South Lemon Creek Material Source (gravel extraction site). The site would serve as a composting facility.

Lease and sale of CBJ easements to DOT for culvert rehabilitation (CSP2018 0016)

CBJ seeks to lease two temporary access easements, one temporary construction easement, and sell four permanent easements. The need for acquiring easements is to ensure the continued maintenance of those culverts included in the Twin Lakes Drive-Lemon Road culvert rehabilitation project.

CBJ land disposal to private property owners (CSP2018 0017)

CBJ Lands and Resources requests approval for a city land disposal of 530 square feet to adjacent land owners at 9332 North Douglas Highway. The property will be sold at market value according to city processes established in regulation. This sale will facilitate the buyers’ opportunity to subdivide their lot.

A request to use a single-family residence as a boarding house (USE2018 0011)

The applicant requests a Conditional Use Permit for an existing, unpermitted boarding house operating in a five-bedroom residence located in the Montana Creek subdivision. CBJ 49.80 defines a boarding house as “a dwelling in which more than two bedrooms are used for commercial lodging provided by the owner or operator who lives on site”.

A review of the Juneau Airport terminal reconstruction project (CSP2018 0015)

Juneau International Airport is proposing to complete the reconstruction of the airport terminal building.  The Phase 2 of the terminal reconstruction project will result in the provision of facilities for airport operations and passenger services.  Following reconstruction, only passenger services will be hosted in the building with carriers required to provide their own freight buildings and facilities on airport land that will be available as lease lots.
