Planning Commission meets August 13. Here’s how to weigh in.

August 7, 2019 – Notices for Public Comment

The City and Borough of Juneau Planning Commission meets on August 13, 7 p.m. in City Hall Assembly Chambers to review proposals for a marijuana cultivation facility, the replacement of an existing communication tower, and a rezone on Montana Creek Road. All of these items are up for public hearing.

A notice of appeal will also be heard by the Planning Commission, however this case is not open to public testimony.

A marijuana cultivation facility on 9331 Glacier Highway (USE2019 0018)

The applicant requests a Conditional Use Permit for the development of a marijuana cultivation facility. The subject building is located behind the Elks Lodge and a vacant building formerly used for a childcare. The location of the proposed marijuana cultivation facility meets State distance requirements from schools, recreation or youth centers, buildings in which religious services are regularly conducted, and correctional facilities.

Replacement of a communication tower on Engineers Cutoff (WCF2019 0007)

The public hearing for this case is being continued from the July 23, 2019 Planning Commission meeting. The applicant requests a Special Use Permit for the development of a Wireless Communication Facility (WCF) that replaces a 35-foot tall, guyed tower with a 40-foot tall, self-supporting tower. Additionally, the applicant proposes an 8-foot x 8-foot generator shed. The site is identified as Site 20 in the WCF Master Plan.

Configuration: Self-supporting 6 foot x 6 foot square lattice tower
Height: Tower will be 40 feet high; radio equipment may be up to 20 additional feet high
Lighting Specifications: FAA Style E – Medium Intensity Dual Lighting

Rezone of 17 acres along Montana Creek Road from D3 to D5 (AME2019 0008)

The property owner is requesting a rezone of Glacier Lands Subdivision, Lot 1, from D3 to D5. The lot is 17.34 acres, is located within the Urban Service Boundary, and is designated as Urban Low Density Residential in the 2013 Comprehensive Plan. The subject lot is located near established residential neighborhoods, including Brigadoon Estates and Montana Creek Subdivision, which are both zoned D5.
