Park Maintenance drains Twin Lakes

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Park Maintenance crew is draining Twin Lakes today, March 3, in an effort to fight the growth of the milfoil weed. The goal is to expose the milfoil to freezing temperatures and salt water.
The gates that separate lake water from the channel will be kept open for the rest of March, and Park Maintenance will fill Twin Lakes back up during a high tide cycle the second week of April. The public is asked to please stay off Twin Lakes during this time period; any ice that forms will be unstable due to lake level fluctuation.
