Morrow to lead Thunder Mountain High School

February 24, 2020 – News

The Juneau School District has chosen Steve Morrow as the next Principal of Thunder Mountain High School (TMHS). Morrow takes over from Principal Dan Larson who is retiring after a decade of leadership at the school.

Morrow’s appointment follows a national search for a principal for Juneau’s largest school. He will make the move to Alaska from Whitewright, Texas where he is completing his fourth year as principal of Whitewright High School.

Morrow visited TMHS last week and met with students, staff and families. An interview panel including members of the school’s certificated staff and classified staff, district administration and Site Council, conducted the interviews and made a recommendation to the Superintendent, Dr. Bridget Weiss.

“We were fortunate to have a high quality pool to consider and we are excited to welcome Mr. Morrow to our administrative team.” says Dr. Weiss.

Morrow has been in education since 2003, starting out as a high school social studies teacher and basketball coach. He moved into administration as an assistant principal and has been a high school principal for seven years. Morrow’s leadership experience also includes service as a teacher mentor, Social Studies Department chair, and president of the local Association of Texas Professional Educators.

“It is with great excitement that I accept the position of Principal at Thunder Mountain High School. It has been a life-long dream to come to Alaska. The fact that I have the opportunity to experience Alaska for the first time in the role of serving others on my campus, and in my community, makes this even more special. I can’t wait to start my new adventure in Alaska this summer. Go Falcons!” Morrow says.

Morrow holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota and a Master in Education; Educational Administration from Lamar University. He will officially join the district this summer for the start of the new school year. His resume can be found in the News block at www.juneauschools.org.
