Juneau has new COVID-19 cases and new hospitalization

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports three new cases of COVID-19 in Juneau – two residents and one nonresident. The City and Borough of Juneau already reported one of the resident cases yesterday, which was a result of secondary transmission. How the new resident case contracted the virus is under investigation. The new nonresident case is no longer present in Juneau. Juneau also has one new hospitalization. This is Juneau’s first hospitalized COVID-19 case since April.

Juneau’s cases are part of 78 new statewide cases reported today – 62 residents and 16 nonresidents. Cumulatively, Alaska has had 1,795 resident cases – 1,069 are active – and a total of 364 nonresident cases. The state also reports one new death. The person who died was a female Anchorage resident in her 50s with preexisting conditions.

In Juneau, 58 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since March. Of those, six cases are active, 50 individuals have recovered, and two are deceased. Juneau has had a total of 11 nonresidents with COVID-19; four cases are active, seven have recovered and/or are longer in Juneau.

• Stay six feet or more away from non-family members.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a face covering when around others.
• Wash your hands frequently.
