Juneau-Douglas City Museum & Public Libraries seek AmeriCorps Member

September 4, 2018 – News

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum and the Juneau Public Libraries has an opportunity for an AmeriCorps member to join their teams. Anyone from the community can apply to be an AmeriCorps member as long as certain qualifications are met. This full-time service position will help coordinate programs, class visits, and volunteers at the museum and library.

“We want to accommodate people’s strengths and interests, so we will craft the AmeriCorps member’s service time around those skills. Whether your interest is music or history, we will find projects that allow you to explore those talents,” Museum Director Beth Weigel said.

The AmeriCorps member will play a role in developing a new docent training program at the Museum as well as assist the museum curator with exhibit preparation and museum collection maintenance. The member will also support teen room activities and technical support for seniors at the Library and help with other programs like Science Friday. For other service duties, click here.

This is a full-time service position for a college graduate that extends through July 31, 2019. The minimum age is 18 and there is no maximum age. The AmeriCorps member receives a living allowance of $1,300 a month, AmeriCorps health insurance, an education award, and other benefits. If you’re 55 or older when you start and fulfill your term of service, your education award can be applied to a child or grandchild.
