Downtown is getting a new signage system. Tell CBJ what you think of it July 10 & 11.

The City and Borough of Juneau is in the midst of designing a new pedestrian information system for Downtown Juneau. Most of the current directional signs are more than 10 years old and some have dated or incorrect information. The public is invited to review the new strategy, interact with mockups of new directional signage and markers, and provide feedback on July 10 and July 11.

The goal of the new system is to allow people to orient themselves and navigate from place to place in a way that is clear, legible, engaging, and creates a sense a place. Mayer/Reed, a Portland-based landscape architecture and visual communications studio, has been working with Juneau-based MRV Architects and CBJ on the project. The design team conducted stakeholder interviews and meetings in April, and has since been working on analysis/schematic design and design development. The team is now looking for community feedback.

CBJ will host a Design Open House on Tuesday, July 10, 4:30 – 7 p.m. at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The public is encouraged to stop by and give input on how the new system works, its accuracy and functionality. The following day, Wednesday, July 11, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Marine Park Pavilion, the public can engage and interact with actual mockups of new directional signage and markers.
