City Museum seeks applications for artist exhibits

June 20, 2018 – News

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum is currently seeking proposals from artists or groups who are interested in mounting a show during the 2019-20 Season. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2018. Every year, the Juneau-Douglas City Museum hosts solo and group art exhibits from November through February. During 2017-18, the Museum exhibited work by local artists Mercedes Munoz, Abel Ryan as well as paintings and portraits in memory of Sharon Lobaugh.

The Museum encourages a variety of exhibition ideas and will consider artists working in all media. Successful candidates will present work that complements the Museum’s mission: To foster among its diverse audiences an awareness of Juneau’s cultural heritage, values and community memory so we may draw strength and perspective from the past, inspire learning, and find purpose for the future.

Applicants must submit a completed application form, which can be picked up at the Museum or found here. In addition, artists must submit five examples of past or current artwork representing the kind of work they plan to exhibit, an image list that corresponds with examples of work, a brief exhibit statement describing the proposed exhibition, and an artist resume. Artists should read the application form carefully for more details on the required submissions.

Artists selected must be prepared to hang the exhibit, produce labels and supply posters and invitation postcards for promotion of their show. For more information, contact Public Programs Coordinator Elissa Borges at [email protected] or 586-0966.
