Several healthcare providers in Juneau offer COVID-19 testing services. In addition, the City and Borough of Juneau has two sites – the Capital City Fire/Rescue Drive-Thru Testing Site at the Hagevig Training Center and the Juneau International Airport Test Facility. Here is information to clarify how the public should use each site:
Capital City Fire/Rescue Drive-Thru Testing Site
The Drive-Thru Testing Site at the Hagevig Training Center is primarily for individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19. Getting tested at this site requires an appointment through the COVID-19 Screening Hotline, 586-6000.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19, even mild ones, call your primary healthcare provider or call the COVID-19 Screening Hotline at 586-6000. The hotline is available daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you call the hotline, testing will be arranged at the Drive-Thru Testing Site if appropriate. There is no cost for the test and this site now offers a non-invasive, nasal swab PCR test. Tests are sent to the State of Alaska Public Health Laboratory in Fairbanks and results can take up to 5 days to come back, though there can be delays due to shipping.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include any of the following: fever (>100.4), dry cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, decreased appetite, diminished sense of taste or smell, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, muscle/joint aches, nausea, rash, rigors, runny nose, sore throat, or phlegm production.
Juneau International Airport Test Facility
The Juneau International Airport Test Facility is for:
- Travelers arriving from out-of-state (State of Alaska’s Health Mandate 10)
- Voucher retesting 7-14 days after arrival (State of Alaska’s Health Mandate 10)
- Ferry passengers going on longer-duration routes within Alaska or to Bellingham. Longer-duration travel means any passenger itinerary originating in Alaska that concludes in Bellingham; any passenger itinerary that includes a voyage across the Gulf of Alaska; any passenger itinerary to or from the Aleutian Chain that includes the port of Kodiak. (Alaska Marine Highway System COVID-19 protocols)
This site offers a non-invasive, nasal swab PCR test, and there is no fee. With a voucher, travelers can return to the Juneau Airport for the follow-up test or contact another health care provider in Juneau to see if the provider will accept the voucher. Follow-up voucher testing (bring the voucher) and ferry testing (bring your reservation) at the airport does not require an appointment; an individual can simply show up during available hours – 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. CCFR recommends individuals come during off peak times – 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tests are sent to the state lab in Fairbanks and results can take up to 5 days to come back, though there can be delays due to shipping.
