Pol Corvez will discuss his current exhibit at the Museum, ?North Douglas Highway Mailboxes,? as well as his career in photography. Born in Brittany, France, Pol Corvez began his interest in photography as a teenager. Corvez spent many years as a professional photographer and lecturer of photography at the University of Angers. Now retired, Corvez devotes most of his time to his photography projects, though he does still teach occasional workshops.

The inspiration for ?North Douglas Highway Mailboxes? occurred in the summer of 2011, when Corvez was staying on Douglas Island for a few days. As he drove along the North Douglas Highway, the variety of mailboxes astounded him, and he knew that he wanted to photograph them. Corvez considers the photographs to be ?portraits of the resident families, which show their various tastes for building and decoration, their originality, their leisures and hobbies, their favorite newspaper, even their philosophy, at times.?

This event is free, and doors will open at 6:45pm. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation. ?North Douglas Highway Mailboxes? will be on exhibit in the Museum?s Murray Gallery from January 6th-28th, with an opening reception on January 6th from 4:30-7:00pm.
