UAS Professor of Art, Jeremy Kane, presents an exhibition of wood, soda, and gas-fired ceramics during the months of December and January. The show opens with a reception on First Friday, December 4th, and will be on view through January 30th, 2016.

?This work is an evolution of pottery that I have been working towards for twenty-two years since first learning to make pottery on the wheel as a kid. I have been studying clay ever since,? states Professor Kane.

Throughout his eleven years of teaching at the University of Alaska Southeast, Kane has developed a kiln firing facility that is unique to Southeast Alaska. The work on display at the City Museum has been fired with Alaska spruce wood in kilns that he built with his students and colleagues. Wood kilns produce a weathered and often drippy surface on the pots, due to ash collection and very extreme temperatures. ?This is what potters refer to as ?surface?,? reports Kane.

Jeremy Kane will share his process and techniques just before the exhibit comes down, at a lecture and slide show program taking place on Thursday, January 21st beginning at 7:00 pm.
