JUNE 1, 1898-Frank Bach of Douglas left this week on the steamer Pilgrim to return to Dawson. His wife and family accompanied him as far as Seward City where they will visit the George Bach family.
John F. Malony left for Dawson on the steamer Detroit, which has taken the place of the Pilgrim on the Juneau-Skagway route.
JUNE 8, 1898-On her next trip north the steamer Cottage City, will visit Glacier Bay and will continue to visit that attraction each trip during the tourist season.
Franklin Street is being planked from Second to Sixth.
The Steamboat Saloon is now open for business.
JUNE 15, 1898-The ferry Lone Fisherman has been out of commission for several days and the J. R. Roberts is taking her place.
The tug Tacoma with the barge Skookum in tow came into port yesterday. The Skookum is reported to be the largest barge ever built and has aboard 700 head of cattle bound for Pyramid Harbor and a large quantity of railroad construction material for Skagway.
F. C. Hammond has again assumed management of the Sheep Creek mines for the American Mining Company. During his absence from Sheep Creek, he erected and placed in operation an aerial tram to the top of Chilkoot Pass.
JUNE 22, 1898-The Douglas public schools will close for summer vacation on the 24. Closing exercises will be given in the school house at the Mexican mine at 8 p.m. that day.
An election will be held Friday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the offices of Cassel and Shattuck in the Young Block to elect five fire wardens for the coming year. A total of 17 names have been placed in nomination.
The Magnolia sample rooms have been opened by George Ross who provides an excellent free lunch for his patrons.
JUNE 29, 1898-M. J. Cohen, E. Valentine, Frank Forrest, Lockie MacKinnon and James McClusky were elected Juneau fire wardens on Friday. J. J. Clark and Allen Shattuck served as tellers for the election.
B. M. Behrends is tearing away the rear half of his stores and will replace it with a larger building. When that is completed, the front half will be torn down and replaced, thus creating an entirely new building.
