Housing & Homelessness Service Coordinator

Partially Exempt 37.5 hours per week $29.17- $30.16 Hourly (DOQ)

Job Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general direction of the Chief Housing Officer, the Housing & Homelessness Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating local housing and social services specifically targeting the homeless population within Juneau, Alaska. The incumbent will work closely with local housing and social service agencies, including the Juneau Coalition on Housing and Homelessness & Community Navigators to help maintain a Coordinated Entry referral process, identify gaps in housing and services, and pursue policy changes that decrease the number of persons experiencing homelessness in the community. The incumbent will be the liaison for community work on these issues for the City Managers’ Office and CBJ Assembly.

Typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Educate the Assembly, community members, stakeholders, agencies, etc. on homelessness and develop strong partnerships.
  • Primary public contact and internal CBJ contact for housing and homeless services issues.
  • Develop and maintains strong working relationships with the CBJ Assembly, City Managers’ Office,, and Juneau Coalition on Housing and Homelessness
  • Perform analysis of current issues and develop recommendations to end homelessness.
  • Assist JCHH in operation of a Coordinated Entry system and provide organizational capacity to implement the next set of strategies to address homelessness;
  • Network with industry peer at the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, and in other municipalities in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:      Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Project Management, or a related field

 

Experience:    One (1) year of experience in public relations, emergency management, social work, or communications

Some familiarity with homeless programs (emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, case management, coordinated entry referral system); experience teaching or facilitating groups; experience with the Homeless Management Information System database or willingness to learn.

POSITION REQUIRMENTS

Other:  Valid Alaska Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
