NOTE: The Patroller positions are flexibly staffed and the level at which the selected applicant is appointed will be based on the applicant’s qualifications.

Job Responsibilities

PATROLLER I RESPONSIBILITIES

This is the entry/trainee level class for this series. Incumbents, under immediate supervision, will learn the duties of the Ski Patroller by participating in training programs to become proficient in run hazard marking, primary medical care, patient extrication, toboggan handling, avalanche hazard reduction, lift evacuation, search and rescue services and maintaining a safe and fun work environment. Work is intended to provide specific instruction and feedback to familiarize the employee with the Eaglecrest Mountain, safety policies and procedures including avalanche hazard reduction routes and avalanche hazard reduction procedures. The Ski Patroller I will develop skills to patrol by themselves providing emergency medical care and would routinely have higher-level staff for assistance.

 

PATROLLER II RESPONSIBILITIES

This is the journey level in the series. Under supervision, incumbents perform ski patrol services for Eaglecrest guests. This position functions as a “team follower” on avalanche hazard reduction missions and has been trained to use controlled explosions to reduce avalanche risks. This position administers emergency medical care, extricates and transports injured guests and assists higher-level team members with more advanced injuries or rescues.

 

Positions in this classification family assist with or are assigned the following duties:

  • Provides excellent guest services.
  • Skis at an advanced/expert level.
  • Trains in situational awareness, slope specific emergency medical care, hill safety, avalanche hazard reduction, and Eaglecrest operations.
  • Learns and follows safety protocols for all ski patrol duties such as toboggan handling, avalanche hazard reduction including safe explosive handling procedures, lift evacuation, high/low angle rescue & search and rescue missions.
  • Develops and maintains highly proficient skills in avalanche transceiver use and related avalanche rescue techniques.
  • Assists with and administers emergency medical care, extrication and transport for injured guests.
  • Learns and practices methods of managing risk that will assure that all runs are signed appropriately and hazard markings are maintained in accordance with the Alaska Ski Safety Act and educates the guests on Eaglecrest policies.
  • Maintains avalanche closure lines and ensures their status is clearly marked.
  • Maintains, repairs and keeps stocked all ski patrol rescue equipment, toboggans, gear caches and first aid room
  • Completes incident report forms and assists with accident investigations.
  • Assists with the collection and recording of weather and snowpack information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and special projects from time to time.
  • Leads or supervises staff.

Minimum Qualifications

PATROLLER I MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Other:               At least 18 years of age at time of appointment; AND

 

Continued employment requires completion of the on-the-job training program, meeting or exceeding performance                   standards for Ski Patroller I, and obtaining the required certifications.

 

Employment is contingent upon passing an Eaglecrest ski patrol skiing evaluation and upon passing an ATF                                     background check.

 

License/Certification:      Current Alaska EMT-1 or OEC medical certification within one month of hire and for continued employment; AND Current Professional Rescuer CPR w/AED certification within one month of hire and for continued employment.

 

PATROLLER II MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:       Employed for at least one (1) complete season as a Ski Patroller I at Eaglecrest Ski Area; OR employed for at least two (2) complete seasons as a Ski Patroller at another ski area with an avalanche hazard reduction program.

 

Other:                                   At least 18 years of age at time of appointment; AND

 

Continued employment requires completion of the on-the-job training program, meeting or exceeding performance

standards for Ski Patroller II, and obtaining the required certifications.

 

Employment is contingent upon passing an Eaglecrest ski patrol skiing evaluation and upon passing an ATF

background check.

 

Requires a current Hepatitis B vaccination or waiver (Eaglecrest will provide if necessary).

 

License/Certification:      Current Alaska EMT-1 or OEC medical certification within one month of hire and for continued employment AND Current Professional Rescuer CPR w/AED certification within one month of hire and for continued employment.

 

ALL POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must demonstrate proficiency as an expert skier and ability to ski and navigate all terrain at Eaglecrest regardless of conditions and demonstrate knowledge of Eaglecrest avalanche hazard reduction program procedures. Candidate must be able to work outside in severe weather conditions and at heights of 75’ above ground and be able to lift ~75lbs. unassisted and heavier weights with assistance.
