AROUND 40. LIGHT WINDS. NEAR DOWNTOWN JUNEAU...NORTHEAST WIND 15 TO 25 MPH BECOMING EAST 10 TO 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON. GUSTS TO 35 MPH EARLY IN THE MORNING.

SATURDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS IN THE
MORNING. HIGHS AROUND 42. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15 MPH.

Temperatures remain cool. The tram started just below freezing yesterday morning and after cooling to 28f at about 2pm it has since warmed back to 31f again. Eaglecrest is 35f at the base area, 31f mid mountain and 29f on top.

Winds remain considerable with eaglecrest only showing NE5-10 Gusting to 15mph while the tram is still gusting stronger with NE 25-30 Gusing to 35mph.

Not much snow is available for transport so wind slabs are remaining shallow.

The cloudy cool weather today should limit solar warming.

Even though todays forecast calls for precipitation the forecast precipitation volumes are very light.

Avalanche danger is LOW today. Natural and Human Triggered avalanches are both not likely.

If we get much new snow the danger levels could increase. Look to see if any shallow wind slabs developed over the last few days. You would want to check bonding around these if we see much new snow in the future.

Eaglecrest is hosting an Backcountry Safety Awareness and Companion Rescue Course Saturday March 5th from 8:30am-3:30pm.

This course is free and sponsored by the Department of Public Safety.

During this day long course you will learn about avalanche terrain, weather, and stability assessment tests. You will also learn about Avalanche Rescue as well as transceiver, probe and shovel use.
