Date Issued:2016-12-25 06:56:52
Danger:1
Primary Trend:1
Primary Probability:3
Primary Likelihood:1
Primary Size:1
Primary Description:

With todays winds we could see some startig zone loading in places. If this continues over time we could see weakness develop in these areas. Currently there is very little danger.

Secondary Trend:1
Secondary Probability:2
Secondary Likelihood:1
Secondary Size:2
Secondary Description:

The storm slab remains a concern... but once again is fairly strong and healing... the big concern here would be the size of a slide should something occur... odds of these deeper slides occurring today is LOW. Once again the only concern would be a human trigger.

Discussion:

The National Weather Service Forecasts-

Today- Snow developing in the afternoon. Snow accumulation to 1 inch. Highs 27 to 31. Southeast wind 10 to 20 mph. Near downtown juneau and douglas...wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Tonight- Snow. Snow accumulation 3 to 5 inches. Lows 27 to 31. Southeast wind 10 to 20 mph.

Monday- Snow and rain. Snow accumulation to 2 to 4 inches. Highs around 33. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph.

Conditions have been calm after the big storm early in last week. We saw as much as 82cm of new snow at our snow observations sites with nearly 8\" of water which could mean greater snow volumes at upper elevations. We have a snowpack with 138cm of snow currently that saw 11cm of settlement in the last 4 days. This settlement leads to strength with better bonds in the snowpack as well as higher densities.

The snowpack currently in place is fairly strong after this time to heal.

Temperatures warmed up a little yesterday and will continue to do so today.

Avalanche danger is LOW today. Natural avalanches are highly unlikely... human triggered avalanches remain a remote possibility in isolated locations... but for the most part we have a strong snowpack currently.
